Recent Updates from the City of Ukiah Regarding Annexation
We recently reached out to the City for an update on the annexation process and wanted to share with you where things currently stand. The City provided an update on the annexation process and shared the following information. They are currently evaluating additional potential boundary configurations with the goal of offering the community at least a few different options to review and comment on. However, each possible boundary adjustment carries significant ripple effects, impacting multiple water districts (each governed by its own independent board), the Ukiah Valley Water Authority, and the delivery of core services such as public safety, street maintenance, and other infrastructure needs. These changes also influence how sales and property tax revenues would be distributed to support those services.
Because of these considerations, the analysis is taking extra time. The City noted that they are continuing to work through the details and are still waiting on essential tax-revenue data from the responsible agency. Once they have the necessary information and are ready to present options, they will schedule public meetings and post updates for community members to review and discuss.
We are encouraged by these updates, particularly by the City’s stated commitment to a transparent public process that invites broad community participation and ensures residents have meaningful opportunities to weigh in at every stage. At the same time, we remain cautious, as it is important that this process truly invites feedback rather than presenting decisions as already made. We look forward to continuing to share information as it becomes available and to supporting a process that reflects the needs and priorities of the entire community.
