Annexation Is Over: City Suspends Ukiah Annexation Initiative

August 31, 2026 - Ukiah, CA - After more than two years of community opposition, the City of Ukiah has announced that it is suspending its annexation initiative and will not move forward with further revisions to the current proposal.

In its announcement, the City acknowledged that public feedback made clear the proposal “does not have the foundation of public support and shared understanding needed to proceed constructively.”

This marks a major victory for the residents, property owners, businesses, and community members who have spent more than two years making their voices heard.

From the beginning, No Ukiah Annexation has called for a process that respects the people who would actually be affected by annexation. Our community attended workshops and public hearings, submitted comments, put up yard signs, contacted elected officials, knocked on doors, distributed thousands of door hangers, and continued showing up as the proposal changed and moved through the process.

Most recently, that opposition was demonstrated clearly at the Ukiah Planning Commission, which voted 4-1 against recommending the annexation-related prezoning proposal to the City Council.

Now, the City has heard the message.

The current annexation proposal will not move forward.
